Yes ! We believe the world will always need more healthy and economic options ! Before launching our new line of raw energy, nutrient packed protein bars, Chapabars, we sat down and thought deeply about this question…

Before jumping to answer, first let’s look at the difference between the different bars on the market and their respective categories:

Energy Bars – these bars have enough calories, which usually come in the form of carbohydrates, to supply the body with the right amounts of energy to help them get through the day. These are great for people with an active lifestyle and for those who would like to keep their metabolisms.

Meal Replacement Bars – these are bars made specifically to replace daily meals without sacrificing the vitamins and minerals that they usually get from eating regular meals.

Protein Bars – these are bars made to supply large amounts of proteins for athletes and those who are trying to build some muscles. These do not contain that many calories, vitamins, and minerals, but it makes up for the lack thereof with a strong punch of proteins. The main purpose of these bars is to help in the muscle building process of the body. Based on what the experts’ belief that muscles can be developed faster with the aid of protein consumption after exercise. In the absence of carbs, protein is also burned to supply the body with energy. Majority made of whey, these bars also contain other protein-rich ingredients such as casein and egg albumen.

Let’s see how they stack up compared to the most popular bars in its category . Identified by sales* and by Amazon we identified bars from Cliff, Larabar, RxBar Real, PowerBar, Kind. With much variation within each brand, we handpicked to be as consistent as possible.

In terms of Total Carbs,

carbs

If you are looking at the possibility of shedding those extra pounds, you may want to go for bars that have less than 30 grams of carbs.

Looking at the sugar content:

sugar

Considering sugars and other types of sweeteners can cause your glucose or blood sugar levels to skyrocket, in our Chapabars, the sweetness is kept to a minimum from the dates, no additional refined sugars or sweeteners are added. For other energy bar options on the market, you will want to stay clear of products that are made of artificial sweeteners and sugar alcohols.

In terms of Total Fat,

fat

To cater to those Keto and Paleo diets, we use saturated fats like coconut oil and fats in nuts in Chapabars.

And in terms of Fiber:

fiber

And finally Protein

protein

Instead of dairy or plant based proteins such as soy, hemp, brown rice or whey powder, the key ingredient in any Chapabar is our cricket powder. We also make heavy use of nuts such as almonds, walnuts, and cashews, as well as superfoods which are nutritionally dense foods that are extra (“ super”) beneficial for the human body such as matcha green and chia seeds.

Now let’s look at the Macroratios:

marco

Looking at the ratios, Chapabars provides a comparatively lower carb option:

macros

With these macros, each Chapabars was made with less than 10 ingredients and is free of gluten, GMOs, grain, soy, dairy, refined sugars, genetically modified organisms, animal products, is kosher and packed with superfoods and micronutrients. Read about our ingredients here.

Farming Insects 101

Western consumers are beginning to realize that insects are food, and much of the world’s population is hungry for better protein. To help what could be one of the largest growth in food markets in history, we will need a lot of insects.

Today, however, we have many. There are only some farms of insects for food grade in the United States and are very small. Other countries have more and are as simple as trap your crickets and the cost of raising them is a little more than a chicken.

Insects do a phenomenal cattle. They are incredibly efficient in converting food into body weight. Barely consume water and take up very little space. Some species thrive in high density, fast growing and healthy when they are living close together. Compared with the chickens, who can not cohabit without any inhumane treatment and drug regimen, you can realize the great potential of insects and why is sustainable food.

Chickens, however, are aged in their favor. It’s been hundreds of years since the Egyptians built large ovens hatching their eggs, raising crickets but we only took a couple of decades. Since the days of the pharaohs, we have gone from basic animal agriculture to advanced production, using advanced technology to produce more meat for less money. Now it costs just under $ 5 buying a pound of chicken breast which is half the price of a pound of crickets.

So if insects are so great Why cost more than a chicken? Much has to do the job. In the time we have bred chickens we have obtained a good automation. While a common farmer has to feed and give them water their chickens by hand, and an industrial chicken farm uses countless machines and electronic systems to control their care. In addition to automation, poultry farmers know a lot of their birds: they based on years of knowledge, are able to tell immediately when something is wrong.

Production of edible insects is still at the stage of common farmer. One day at a farm crickets involves a lot of movement between the boxes of crickets. Feed them and give them water usually done by hand, and while the crickets get older and need a little more space, you have to transfer them to larger habitats (Which can be a delicate task!). Hygienic farm requires regular cleaning and put in his yard crickets once they are ready to harvest, is an art in itself.

It took hundreds of years of trial and error to learn how to raise chickens. With the technology we have today, we are much faster learning from our mistakes. Applying scientific and technical data to the wealth of information we collect, we can learn the best way to approach the breeding of insects, leaving the work that really serves and removing not. With modern tools we can squeeze hundreds of years in one decade. Beyond raising, he carries a whole chain of creating affordable protein supplements. A single farm will be able to produce enough insects to whet our appetites for products made of crickets, leaving only the volumes that need to have safe food. We will need hundreds (of farms) and we have them working together. Building networks of our farms that keep them connected by intelligent data supplements supply chain, while our farmers share the cost of production. Joining forces to buy foods that help crickets to raise them without much cost and have access to our latest reports which means you will always have his eye on the efficiency of their farms.

Making hundreds of years of progress in a few years, it is what will lead us to true innovation which is why actively actively seek the best scientists and engineers we can find. It is highly important that we find the right farmers in order to present them with people who are interested in insects and think they have what it takes. It is an exciting time to be part of this industry now, and are happy to listen to anyone who wants to be involved.

With all these pieces together, we will be able to produce crickets at a cost lower than what is possible with any other animal protein. Beyond the crickets, we use the same processed data to explore hundreds of species of possible insects that have so far been rejected for such practices. With cheaper insects, companies like Hooper Foods can develop new and exciting products that unlock the potential of insects. They are not only exciting, healthy and delicious ingredients, are also an incredibly sustainable food and truly formidable for everyone.

Chapufarms has spent a lot of time analyzing crickets farms today and the jobs workers do and with our experience we hope to be able to produce crickets at a cost lower than what is possible with any other animal protein.

Why eat Insects?

Why eat Insects?

It is likely that insects (including crickets) have formed a significant part in the diet of humans throughout the history of the species. Besides bacteria, insects are the most abundant life form on the planet and they exist outside the environmental impact.

Crickets are openly available through the western world and are extremely efficient in generating protein. They require very little food, water and space in addition to mature and reproduce rapidly. They are packed with nutrients, they are low in saturated fat and know great. They are incredibly nutritious and more sustainable than traditional livestock perfect animal protein. Crickets are protein future of the 21st century.

Crickets are healthy

Crickets are rich and high in quality protein, containing all 9 essential amino acids.

Essential amino acids are those that can not be synthesized by our bodies. They are also very low in saturated fat and contain greasers of Omega 3 (good fats). They are also rich in micronutrients such as iron, magnesium, zinc, calcium and vitamin B6 and B12.

Crickets are sustainable

Cows require 10 pounds of feed to produce a pound of protein, crickets require only 2 pounds. They have a good feed conversion radio that puts all cattle besides being ridiculous than chicken. Crickets are extremely efficient with water; to produce a pound of protein crickets, only one gallon of water is needed. Crickets produce 80 times less methane than conventional livestock. Methane is a natural gas which is 20 times more potent than carbon dioxide.

Welcome to Chapufarms !

We are glad you made it here and are excited about your interest in how insects can play a bigger role in our global food value chain.

Our mission is to make cricket powder available for this new industry and reduce the complexity for businesses creating with products to serve this new and growing market. Our philosophy is that focusing on ways to build out this supply chain starting with cricket powder just makes sense for our environment, health and demographic reasons outlined in the study published by the United Nations. The health benefits alone of doubling down on crickets are clear.
The best is yet to come. We are just getting started. So please poke around this site and feel free to reach out to us with any inquiries.
